Sometimes people like to wear sunglasses slightly larger, considering moving up a size.
Our frames come in four main materials, which each have their own advantages.
Acetate. The most common material we use is cellulose-acetate, a hypoallergenic, plant-based plastic, that first appeared in the late 1940s. It comes in a plethora of different colours, and can be easily polished to return it to its glorious lustre.
Steel. Some of our frames are made from surgical grade stainless steel. This is a strong material which means it can be very thin. Steel itself is not hypoallergenic, so we typically add acetate sleeves around the ears, and titanium nosepads. One benefit of steel frames is that the nosepads can be easily adjusted.
Titanium. The main benefit of titanium is that it is both incredibly light and strong - typically weighing less than 5g without lenses (less than a 20p piece) - as well as being hypoallergenic.
Choosing the right size is as important as choosing a style you love.
Our frames come in a range of sizes from Extra Small to Extra Large. The overall size of a frame is based on its width, with each around 5mm apart.
As well as different sizes, some of our frames are available in different fits - such as those with a narrow bridge or low bridge.
If you struggle to find a frame that fits your nose, some frames are available with adjustable nosepads.
We can also add deeper nosepads to all our acetate frames.
If you can’t visit one of our Cubitts stores, try on our frames virtually via The Speculator.
Have patience. Spectacles, like death and taxes, get everyone in the end.
But if you really can’t wait, all our frames are available with clear, non-prescription (‘plano’) lenses.
We thought you’d never ask. Our experienced (and exceedingly honest) team is on hand to help.
If you have problems with frames slipping down your nose, or your nose is naturally low or small, we can replace the regular nosepads with adjustable ones.
You can add adjustable nose pads to any of our acetate frames listed here by selecting 'nose pad addition', nestled under add-ons when viewing your bag.
